The US certification company Underwriters
Laboratories (UL) has opened a wire
and cable laboratory in North Jakarta
to be operated by its subsidiary, PT UL
International Indonesia.
The company president, Ben Miller, said
that the Indonesia location was chosen
because of the country’s fast-growing
economy.
UL said in a statement that the laboratory
has been accredited by the National
Accreditation Committee as a testing
laboratory, and by the product certification
agency LSPro for the certification of
Indonesian national standards.
Miller added that UL standard certification
requires ongoing surveillance and
comprehensive monitoring of products,
from design to sale.
Anthony Tan, vice president and
managing director for UL ASEAN region,
explained that UL already operates two
laboratories in Singapore in the consumer
technology and transaction security
fields, and a textile and consumer goods
laboratory in Vietnam.
