Premenstrual Disorders

Maryann became more and more anxious. Her binge eating was
hard to control, although she normally prided herself on eating five
to six small healthy meals daily. Finally, worn out and so tired she
could barely function, Maryann consulted her physician. After the
charting and usual medical exams, her physician diagnosed her with
PMDD and prescribed Zoloft at 25 milligrams a day, only during her
luteal phase.
Within one cycle, Maryann noticed a difference. She was better
able to handle her teenage children’s schedules; she slept much bet-
ter; and she felt more like herself than she had in years.
Lois felt like a different person once a month. She fought with her
husband over who took the garbage out last and whether he put
