SURFING

1982 was a successful year for the

USD surf team. With over 30 stu

dents, each battling to securea spot on

the 12-man roster, a highly skilled

and competitive team was the result.

The USD surf team is associated with

the National Scholastic Surfing Asso

ciation. The N.S.S.A. is the organizing

body for amateursurfing in the Unit

ed States. Intercollegiate competition

began in the spring semester, and

USD competed against such southern

California schools as SDSU, UCSD,

OCC, USC, and Pepperdine, and

maintained their reputation as a

strong forcein intercollegiate compe

tition. Last year USD surfers John

Faul, Cornel Crawford, Jamie Knoop,

and outstanding women's surfer Dana

Dawes representedUSD in the NSSA

National Collegiate Surfing Cham

pionship held annually at Huntington

Beach. Hopefully1982 will see more

USD surfers involved in post season

competition. Keep surfing!
