USD takes to the court with one of
its strongest men's tennis teams ever.
The '82 Toreros are led by seniors
Peter Herrmannand TerryWard. In
1981 Herrmann, ranked #40 by the
ITCA, compiled a singles record of 24
and 6, playing mostly at #1; Ward,
USD's Most Valuable Player last
year, won 22matches and lost 4, won
the Ojai Independent Singles and
Doubles Title (and led the team to
its second straight team title) and
was the WCAC Champ at #1 singles.
At the beginning of the season
Coach Ed Collins' team was ranked
#25 among NCAA Division 1
schools, andexpected to improve its
20-10 '81 team record.
Filling out the ladder are freshmen
Ian McLaughlin, juniorTye Ferdin-
andsen, ana senior Eric Steinbroner.
The doublesteam lineup lists Ward
and Herrmann at #1, Steinbroner
and Ferdinandsen at #2 and
McLaughlin and freshman Eddie
Farrow at #3.
