According to Solony this was named in memory of Gen–

eral Winfield Scott Hancock, famous Confederate veteran,

who was the Democratic candidate for the Presidency of

the United States away back in .1880.

HAPPY THOUGHT

A glance at this recipe inclines one to think that some

bartender's "happy thought" in this instance was to grab

up every bottle within reach, one after ·another, and pour

some of each into a glass. It made a bouquet of various

odors and tastes. But what one wonders what must have

been the aftermath of the "Happy Thought!"
