Pneumatic bypass valve system

Thanks to the shape of the tailpipes and the pneumatic exhaust bypass valves, the GranCabrio

Sport produces a rich, deep and throaty sound that is worthy of its race-bred heritage. In

‘Normal’ mode the valves are kept closed, forcing the exhaust gases to travel a long way before

discharge. This means that when they finally leave the system, they have lost much of their

energy and clamorous turbulence. However, at a touch on the ‘Sport’ button above 2,500 rpm,

the valves are opened and the flow of gases is directed along a path that leads straight out into

the exhaust pipes, thus generating that marvellous Maserati sound.

Transmi ss ion

The GranCabrio Sport inherits its six-speed transmission from the acclaimed Quattroporte

Sport GT S. This gearbox offers a choice of five operating modes: Auto Normal, Auto Sport,

Manual Normal, Manual Sport and Ice. Selecting Auto or Manual Sport mode activates the MC

Auto Shift function and the highest possible performance: acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in just

5.2 seconds. The driver is provided with full information about the transmission on the display

in the centre of the instrument panel, whilst for manual gearshifts the car has extra long ‘Trofeo

Design’ paddles, which have been developed specifically for this model.
