Piping design of mechanical equipment
and compact systems
CAD Partner GmbH is a developer,
manufacturer and training provider of
Smap3D software solutions, which are
used in conjunction with CAD systems
in an integrated and consistent design
and management process.
Cougar Fuel Systems, a producer of
fuel systems for the emergency supply
of critical facilities, uses Smap3D P &
ID and Smap3D Piping in combination
with the SolidWorks CAD system for the
drafting and construction of pipelines.
The Smap3D solution provides an
integrated design process from 2D
to 3D flow chart diagram based on
central pipe class definitions. Automatic
program connections (no export/import)
enable the sharing of information and
data from one process step to another.
Cougar was looking for an opportunity
to optimise workflows in such a
way that various demanding design
processes could be integrated and
coordinated. The goal was to shorten
overall production time while improving
quality.
The basic requirement was the
connection to the existing SolidWorks
CAD system. The software also needed
to be operated by less experienced
staff. The components and pipes
constructed in 2D P & ID needed to be
reused without effort or intermediate
steps in the 3D CAD environment.
Another requirement involved a filter
function with which the suppliers and
parts lists can be processed, so that an
assessment of the parts used can be
made at an earlier date.
Daniel Leos, product development and
marketing at Cougar Fuel Systems,
commented on the result: “In the few
weeks in which I have been using
Smap3D Piping, I have noticed a
significant time savings in drawing the
racks that we produce. The pipe classes
and PartFinder modules from Smap3D
allow me to easily add the correct pipes
and supply parts to my database in
order to obtain a complete and thorough
3D production drawing.”
Mr Leos noted other benefits, such
as improved communication with
customers, suppliers, service providers
and colleagues through P & ID PDF
and the use of lists and reports for
early orders and changes. In particular,
the to-do list supports structured
work and helps users to construct 3D
models quickly and accurately with the
information from the 2D P & ID.

Duplex and Super Duplex
fittings
Erne Fittings is a manufacturer and
supplier of butt-welding fittings such
as elbows, tees and reducers from
21.3 to 1,016mm, external diameter and
wall-thicknesses up to 50mm, made of
alloyed, unalloyed, stainless steels and
special materials.
Duplex and Super Duplex combine high
strength and toughness with corrosion
properties. The steel grades are
prominent for their resistance against
stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and
pitting in almost all corrosive media.
They also provide good weldability,
which is essential for processing butt-
welding fittings efficiently.
Erne Fittings, as a Norsok-approved
supplier, provides seamless butt-
welding fittings in Super Duplex UNS
S32750 (up to 6") and Duplex UNS
S31803/S32205 (up to 8"), with wall
thicknesses S10S, S40S, S80S, S120
and S160 from stock. Other Duplex and
Super Duplex products or dimensions
