Supporting the UK oil and gas industry
IPP Group (International Piping
Products) has completed a major
investment as part of its ongoing
support for the oil and gas, energy
and nuclear industries in the UK and
around the globe by installing a new
tee press.
The bespoke press has a 7,000-tonne
forming capacity and can make Duplex,
Super Duplex, nickel alloy and all
stainless materials, thin and thick wall
tees from seamless or seam welded
pipe and hollows, and produce 20"
tees with up to double the efficiency of
existing presses.
CEO Jared Ayres commented,
“Ever since IPP became involved in
manufacturing, we have wanted to
support our local community workforce
and due to continued investment in
British expertise and manufacturing,
we have been able to initially meet
our aim of providing continued
employment to our local workforce. This
ongoing investment will provide more
opportunities for growth within our area,
which will lead to further employment
opportunities in a manufacturing field.”
Designed in the UK to the IPP Group’s
requirements and assembled overseas,
the installation project took 18 months
from inception to arrival on site. With
an overall weight of almost 400 tonnes,
the press is housed in an extension
to the company’s existing 36,000ft
2
manufacturing facility near Barton-
under-Needwood in Staffordshire, UK.
The complete construction of the tee
press build was filmed on time-lapse
camera, and can be viewed on the
company’s website.

Whisky distillery solution keeps pipes warm
Freezing pipes taking water from the
Dumgoyne Hills just north of Glasgow,
UK, hindered the production of very
special Scotch malt whisky at the
Glengoyne Distillery, until the installation
of advanced technology pipework.
Flexenergy’s Flexalen 600 polybutylene
pipe solution has an integral trace
heating element that combines with
polyolefine insulation to keep the water
flowing, even at the lowest temperatures.
120m of the Flexalen pipework was
installed at the distillery, above and
below ground.
Robbie Hughes, Glengoyne Group
distillation manager, was pleased with
the smooth running of the project,
commenting, “Previously this exposed
position made the water supply prone
to freezing – but the new pipework and
the replacement of an old cast iron pipe
fixed the problem.
The pipework and associated fittings
all arrived within a week of order, which
was impressive, and if it works as well
as the pipe we put in several years ago,
it will be a case of fit and forget.”
The Flexalen pipe technology has
received WRAS (Water Regulations
Advisory Scheme) approval, enabling
every product within the range to be
specified for potable water schemes.
Flexenergy designs, supplies and
installs distribution pipework used
in heating and hot and chilled water
systems, across a wide variety
of renewable/sustainable energy
technologies, including solar, biomass
CHP, geothermal, and district and
community heating.
The company is the UK and Ireland
stockist of Flexalen pre-insulated
pipe system, and employs a network
of regional application engineers that
work closely with consulting engineers,
energy managers and contractors in
delivering solutions.
Flexenergy offers extensive pipe stocks;
jointing technologies (welded and
mechanical); pipe ancillaries, meters
and fittings; system design; installation
services; and in-house fabrication
services.
