Duisburg Tubes Production
acquires alloy tubes facility
Duisburg Tubes Production (DTP) is
seeking cooperation partners in the
tube industry to explore new markets
and products to diversify its core
business.
The company recently acquired a
production site for Zircaloy tubes from
French public industrial conglomerate
Areva, after months of cooperative
realignment of the site.
The company now aims to assume
the position of a leading European
manufacturer of alloy tubes used in
high-tech, industrial applications as
well as Zircaloy tubes for the nuclear
energy industry.
The manufacturing site that previously
exclusively supplied Areva has been
building a sales department in order to
place excess volumes on the market.
Although Areva will continue to source
fixed volumes, DTP’s management
seeks to expand the product offering
and diversify its customer portfolio,
potentially through strategic alliances.
“Due to DTP’s exceptional expertise
in highest quality-cold forming of
challenging materials, the amount
of interest expressed by potential
cooperation partners has been
overwhelming,” said the company’s
CFO, Eduard Regele.
At its manufacturing facility in
Duisburg, DTP cold-forms customised
seamless tubes to high quality
standards, KTA 1401 audited by the
German Core Technology Commission
(Kerntechnischer Ausschuss). The
finished products are installed in fuel
assemblies for nuclear pressurised and
boiling water reactors.
Due to their corrosion resistance, high
strength and low neutron absorption,
zirconium alloys are an essential
material for nuclear fuel cans operating
in demanding environments that
constantly expose to temperatures
above 650°C for periods as long as
five years.
Zirconium alloys also find numerous
applications predominantly in the
chemical industry.
