on improving Quaker’s relationship with

its major customers and expanding its

channels to market. Mr Barry has an MBA

from the Wharton School of the University

of Pennsylvania, and a bachelor’s degree

in chemical engineering from Drexel

University.

“In Mike, we have a very well-prepared

successor ready from within our

management team,”

commented Mr Naples.

“He’s been a partner to me in many ways

and has made an enormous difference in

exports by Turkish companies increased

significantly in 2007, particularly in the

energy sector. The market potential

for prospective speakers and tabletop

exhibitors is excellent.

The ITA also expects first-rate prospects for

local sponsorship and support, in particular

from the enormous Ihlas Group with its

extensive media resources, including the

trade magazine Boru. Its daughter company

Ihlas Fuar runs the Boru tube exhibition

and has offered its full support for the

conference as joint organiser.

Local costs are competitive with other major

European cities and good quality hotel

accommodation is certainly better value

than in many other major cities. The city of

Istanbul itself is an attractive venue to visit

with ample opportunities for sightseeing

tours.

The ITA will be issuing a call for papers later

this year but any tube or pipe organisation

wishing to record an early interest should

contact the ITA secretariat now.

Quaker Chemical announces

leadership change

Quaker Chemical, USA, has announced

that its chairman and CEO, Mr Ronald J

Naples, will step down as CEO in October.

Mr Michael F Barry, currently the company’s

senior vice president and managing director

for North America, will succeed Mr Naples.

Mr Naples will remain as chairman and

CEO until October, after which time he will

remain chairman for a limited period.

Mr Naples has led Quaker for the past 13

years, during which time the company

has grown to become a global leader in

the manufacture of process fluids. The

company’s capability includes steel sheet

rolling and metalworking (machining and

grinding processes), as well as industrial

coatings. In 2007, Quaker surpassed

US$500 million in sales.

Mr Barry joined Quaker in 1998 as chief

financial officer, where he served for

six years before assuming several key

global and regional operating roles. As

managing director of Quaker’s North

American operations, Mr Barry has focused

our business, and I am confident he will be

a great CEO come October.”

Quaker is a leading global provider of

process chemicals, chemical specialities,

services, and technical expertise to a

wide range of industries – including steel,

automotive, mining, aerospace, tube and

pipe, coatings and construction materials.
