Meetings of the Council.

IQth January.

Twenty-two Members present.

Criminal Injuries Rules.

A letter was read hi reply from Judge

Brown, stating that the memorandum of

the Council in reference to the Schedule

of Costs contained in the Criminal Injuries

Rules of July, 1923, had been considered

by the County Court Judges, and that

amending rules had been made by the Lord

Chief Justice and County Court Judges.

These amending rules appeared in

last

month's Gazette.

Court Officers (Temporary Appointments)

Bill.

This Bill was considered, and at the request

of the Council the President undertook to

interview the Minister of Home Affairs in

reference to it.

Court of Examiners.

Three applications for leave to be bound

under Section 16 of the Solicitors (Ireland)

Act,

1898, were

considered;

two were

granted, and one was refused.

30th January.

Twenty-eight Members present.

Land Purchase Acts Rules.

The President informed the Council that

he had been consulted by

the Judicial

Commissioner in relation to Rules about to

be made under the Land Purchase Acts.

Labourers (Ireland) Acts.

The President informed the Council that

he had been consulted by the Minister for

Local Government, in relation to a Rule

about

to be made under the Labourers

(Ireland) Acts, increasing by fifty per cent,

the scale of Solicitors' costs under those Acts.

Compensation Commission Awards.

The question of. the retention by the

Minister of Finance of the amount of the

costs of decrees awarded by the Compensation

Commission to applicants, in addition to

the retention of the full amount of the

compensation awarded,

towards

the dis

charge of the debts due to the Irish Free

State by applicants, was again considered,

and it was decided to make further repre

sentations in support of the contention that

the amount allowed for costs under these

awards should be paid to the Solicitors

who acted for the applicants and obtained

the decrees.
