2017-2021 FINANCIAL PLAN
Surrey hosted the 2016 edition of the
prestigious Creative City Summit. The
sold out conference (216 delegates) for
municipal cultural workers, planners
and educators from across Canada
featured keynote speakers, panels, peer
to peer sessions and local study tours
showcasing Surrey’s arts and heritage
facilities, public art and special events;
The Kids Gallery at the Surrey Museum
produced 2 successful exhibitions in
2016: Water & Food. These new
interactive displays helps kids learn
about sustainability and caring for the
future in fun and active ways. The
Surrey Museum offered free admission
through a sponsorship from the Friends
of the Surrey Museum and Archives
Society; and
Partners in Parks and Cultural Services
collaborated to present the 5
th
annual
Bear Creek Light Festival on October 18,
2016. Over 1,700 community members
enjoyed the Bear Creek Park display
gardens amidst an awe-inspiring display
of music and lights, animated by roving
performers, musicians and lantern
displays.
Surrey partnered with the private sector to develop the Surrey Tennis Centre,
constructed on City land in Newton. The Surrey Tennis Centre, featuring 6 indoor
courts and 6 outdoor red clay courts opened to the public in the Spring of 2016.
