To enhance UNEPnet's services in Arendal, UIC has installed
a Multi-Conference Unit allowing eight parties to partici-
pate in the same conference. This serves UNEP-HQ when
speaking to UNEP regional offices and UN-HQ. GRID-
Arendal benefits from this system in its communication with
its outposted offices in Sweden and Geneva, and other
partners worldwide. The system contributes significantly to
a reduction in travel costs and improves co-operation. By
using the latest ISDN technology over satellite links, the
conference studios at UNEP-HQ can automatically dial any
ISDN video conference connection in the world through the
Arendal Mercure station.
GRID-Arendal participated actively in the Norwegian Pollu-
tion Control Authority's production group for MISTIN II
(State of the Environment Norway on the Internet), and in
the preparation of an international version of the report.
