2010 Census, white Nebraskans make
up 89.7 percent of the state’s total
population. That’s 12 percent higher
than the national average. Just 2 per-
cent of Nebraskans are Asian, com-
pared to 5.3 percent for the U.S. as a
whole.
Nebraskans of Hispanic or Latino
heritage make up 9.2 percent of the
state’s population—almost half the
national average. However, Hispanics
are the fastest growing ethnic group in
the state. Over the next three and a
half decades, their numbers are
expected to more than triple, reaching
a projected 24 percent of the total
population by 2050.
Currently, German Americans
make up Nebraska’s largest ethnic
group, followed by Irish and English.
