Principle of Benefit

From first principles, it would follow that

the largest

benefit

for protons will be

in the youngest patients

(at

risk for late RT effects for the longest period of time)

with

potentially curative

(either localised or oligometastatic)

tumours, requiring RT to

large target volumes

(where a larger normal tissue volume would be spared

exit dose) or to a large proportion of a critical organ

(i.e. eye, liver, and spinal cord) to

high RT doses

.
