IPA News
UN
to develop
General Comment
In a statement released by Louise Meincke, Advocacy
Director, Consortium for Street Children (CSC), it
has announced that it is delighted to share the good news with the
IPA that the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child will develop a General
Comment on Children in Street Situations.
She explained that CSC took a delegation to Geneva and was fortunate to be given
the opportunity to share stories with Mr Pierre Moulin, International President.
On behalf of the IPA, Mr Moulin ensured that the Association added its support to
a cross-sector joint letter to the UN Committee setting out clearly why a General
Comment on Children in Street Situations is necessary.

Could you be a
Publicity Officer?
Lawrence Wright, Chair of 8 Region (East Anglia), sent an email to Lib
Jones, Communication Manager recently.
Dear Lib,
I was attending a NARPO event in Litchfield and I spoke with a lovely PCSO
who knew nothing about the IPA. Only last week I was staying at the Police
Federation in Leatherhead and I spoke with a PCSO and a Civilian staff
member who were administering a mobile Police Station who again knew
nothing about the International Police Association. Along came two police
officers, and guess what – yep – they knew nothing about the IPA either.
So what on earth are our members doing out there? Why aren’t
they talking to each other? I am 75 and I am proud to talk about the
International Police Association to my working colleagues, so come on all,
spread the IPA word around.
In her reply, Lib wrote:
Thanks Lawrence, and for all you’re doing to promote IPA.
Yes, it’s true that despite our best efforts to circulate information via
the official channels of police forces and staff associations, getting the
message out to everybody who is eligible is difficult. We all know, that
even if someone’s heard about IPA, that little bit of personal interaction
with a ‘real’ IPA member makes all the difference to their decision to join.
We have to acknowledge that there are a good many members who
are working wonders recruiting and retaining members for their
branch. Long may their work, and your own, continue and let’s hope more
branches get on board with appointing an active Publicity
Officer for their branch.

Goes to
Sandbach and Raises
Funds for Route 50
‘Stan the Panda’ the IPA’s restored Morris Minor received an invite to
attend the transport festival in Sandbach.
So IPA members and Route 50
participants Mark Faunt and Bill Lloyd set off across the Pennines.
On arrival at the festival Bill said,
“People came with children to have their
photograph taken wearing police helmets and we managed to sell some of
Stan’s merchandise - collecting a few donations.
But we nearly didn’t make it. The rain was so heavy that Stan lost one of
its windscreen wipers on the highest motorway point in England. Mark
had to pull into the services and wait for an AA mechanic - who on arrival
scratched his head saying, ‘I wasn’t born when this was made’.
Thankfully a few phone calls were made and one was found from a
local garage and all was well.”
The second day saw Stan in a different location next to a Fiat and a
fleet of Minis with a little and large steam traction engine topping off
the display. Stan was again admired as people reminisced about when
they had a similar car or that their grandad had owned one.
A total of £54 was made over the weekend and a few more people were
made aware of the Route 50 charity.
Bill added,
“ ...and we recruited three new IPA members!”
IPA Route 50 Challenge is a fund raising initiative being organised by
Region 3 (Northern England) of the IPA. Funds are being raised for the
National Police Memorial Day (NPMD)
