A Little
Extra
Members of the IPA provided
International Youth Gathering
participant, Catherine Pini from
Australia, with some additional
cultural experiences.
Catherine was on her way to the International Youth Gathering due in Paris and
made a stop over with her father John in London.
Bob McCormack, London Reception Officer made arrangements with the Thames
Marine Unit in Wapping for a visit. The visitors enjoyed a talk on the history of the
unit, a visit to the Marine Museum and an explanation of the unit’s operations
and equipment. Thanks to Bob, Dave Coates and Martin Greenock of the Marine
Unit and retired Marine Police Officer Rob Jefferies.
Dorset Changes
Dorset branch members have joined members in
surrounding counties, following consultation.
The former Secretary for Dorset branch, Will Burnett said,
“Attempts were made to contact every member in the
branch to canvass views on the future of the branch and any
preference for which branch they would transfer to should
closure take place. Following consultation, and with approval
from Region 7 (South West England) it was decided to close
Dorset branch and transfer members to the closest
alternative branch.”
Remaining funds of Dorset branch will be allocated
proportionally to those branches.
Members can transfer to any branch of Section UK at any
time. Visit:

“Our conservatory was so hot in summer and
freezing cold in winter we hardly ever used it...
…but now we’ve replaced the old glass roof with a Guardian
fully tiled
warm roof we can sit back and relax. It’s cosy & warm, nice & quiet and
our conservatory is now the room we always wanted it to be”.
In just a few days we will transform your
old conservatory into a beautiful living space...
...and here’s how we do it, first of all we remove the roof, we will then construct
& install the lightweight aluminium frame, next we add the high performance
insulated roof before the interior is finished to your specification.

It’s Unbelievable
IPA member Bill Lloyd and his wife
Linda discovered all is not what
it seems when they took a trip to
Canada – apart from IPA hospitality
that is!
Bill, from Bolton Branch, Linda, and friend Pauline decided to drive a part of
Canada in a 35 foot mobile home.
“The unbelievable weather worn Canadian
roads bounced the vehicle so much, poor Pauline damaged her back,”
said Bill.
Other improbable sights included the Olympic Stadium with futuristic roof
which doesn’t open; shops designed underground to cope with -40 degree
winters and 6 inches of snow; a ‘transport café’ owned by Celine Dion, valued
at 4 million Canadian dollars; a shrine considered too small with a church the
size of St Paul’s built on it, a Grand Prix track ride – in a Canadian member’s
car and finally, taking Linda to 12 miles of shops but managing to escape
instead to a Jazz festival .
What was totally believable was the IPA hospitality, with help from Canadian
members Harry Summerton, Andre Langlois, Guy Babin, as well as friendship
from members and wives of Montreal.
