ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONALE

DES JEUNES AVOCATS

The Young Lawyers Association is a non-profit-making association constituted under Luxembourg law,

which was founded in 1962 in Toulouse and Luxembourg. The objects of the Association include the

promotion of co-operation and mutual respect between young lawyers from countries around the world.

The Association holds a week-long annual congress usually held at the end of August or beginning

of September and publishes an annual Directory containing a list of members. The 28th AIJA Congress

will be held in Barcelona from 17/21 September 1990.

TRAINEE EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

To enable young lawyers to obtain experience of daily professional practice in a foreign country the SPES

Committee of AIJA will assist applicants in finding a host firm with whom they can spend three months.

The host office will ensure that the lawyer's work within the firm involves both international and local

legal matters. He/she will thus have the opportunity to compare legal practice in two jurisdictions and

become familiar with a legal culture other than his/her own.

Applications are accepted from young or almost qualified lawyers under the age of 45, with a minimum

of six months post-qualification experience in their own country and at present working in a law office.

Good knowledge of English, French or the language of the host country is required.

Solicitors interested in joining AIJA or taking part in the Trainee Exchange Programme should contact

Michael Irvine at Matheson Ormsby Prentice, telephone (01) 760981.
