As shown by last year’s successful International Tube Association
conference in Dnepropetrovsk, the Ukrainian tube and pipe industry is
in a very strong position. From January-October 2007, Ukrainian tube
enterprises increased ferrous metal tube production by 10.1 per cent
(compared to 2006), while 17.5 thousand tons of corrosion-resistant tubes
were exported in the same period (an increase of 30.2 per cent). There
is also a substantial import market in the Ukraine, with 2007 research
showing that import growth activity grew by 48.8 per cent (on 2006).
The Ukraine is still on course for future membership of the World Trade
Organisation (WTO), which will give the country more influence in world
and European affairs. The strategic position of the Ukraine can be seen
in its geography – Ukrainian borders are shared with close neighbour
Russia, Belarus, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova.
Tubes & Fittings Ukraine 2008 will take place in Kiev from 18-20 June
at the Ukraine’s largest exhibition centre, KyivExpoPlaza. Organized
by TDS-Expo, the show will be held alongside partner show, Wires &
Fasteners Ukraine 2008. The exhibition has support from sponsors
including Ukrtruboprom Association (see page 76), State Tube Institute,
Society of Welders of Ukraine, and the Machine-Building Engineers and
Technologists Association of Ukraine.
As the Ukraine is more accessible and with simpler business practices
than neighbouring Russia, exhibitors at Tubes & Fittings Ukraine 2008
should have a smoother and more cost-efficient experience with issues
such as freight, visas and travel expenditure. Exhibitors and visitors alike
are sure to have an interesting and exploratory time at the inaugural
event, with many more shows sure to follow.
