Maillefer, Switzerland, will present its
portfolio of wire and cable manu-
facturing solutions for energy, fibre
optic cable and telecom industries.
Energy applications cover the latest
designs from building, automotive to
high speed MV cable manufacturing
and optimum curing for CV lines.
The CV lines balance speed and layout
length for the highest productivity of
quality cables reaching up to 500kV.
For HV and EHV cables, the new
conical THC 70/160 crosshead with
bi-flow distributors for triple-layers will
be highlighted.
From the company’s fibre optic team,
visitors will be able to learn about
the OEL lines used throughout every
step of loose tube fibre optic cable
production.
The OEL 40, 41, 70 and 60 lines
represent, respectively, solutions for
tight buffering, secondary coating, SZ
stranding and jacketing.
The company’s telecom products
range from voice, data and LAN to
micro-coax, mini-coax, CATV, drop &
trunk, and large RF coax. The newest
developments are found in LAN and
micro-coax cable.
For micro-wires used in hand-held
devices, overall diameters are shrinking
down to the order of a tenth of a
millimetre for solid insulation, while
physically
foamed
dual
layer
constructions are slightly larger.

www.mailleferextrusion.comMario Di Maio SpA, manufactures
complete systems and machines for
the metal wire process.
The company’s passage wire rolling
system is a simple and compact unit
that automatically realises the rolling
passages thanks to a sophisticated
mechanical structure and accurate
electronic control of the working
speed. The system can be supplied as
8 or 12 passage models, in three
different series, in accordance with the
dimension of the bar to be rolled, for
a maximum dimension of 16mm.
Special systems for larger dimensions
or different wire shapes can be
supplied on request.
The square wire, once rolled and
annealed in a controlled atmosphere
furnace, is reduced to the desired dia-
meter through multi-pass wire drawing
machines. Mario Di Maio’s T12NFS multi-
pass drawing machine can draw a
0.12mm diameter wire at 400m/min
without breaking, thanks to an accurate
electronic control pulling system.
Reduction of a round wire to a flat
rectangular strip required a high
precision flattening rolling mill. The
LSF120X40 model, provided with coils,
combines compact dimensions with a
safe structure.
Coils are electronically adjustable, with
automatic pulling control. The mill can
obtain thicknesses as low as 0.05mm,
within a tolerance of ±0.0015mm, on
long rolling passages.
