Draka Comteq, a global leader in optical fibre technology, cabling,
connectivity solutions and network engineering services, has announced
that its new bend and kink-resistant optical fibre, BendBrightXS, is receiving
strong market acceptance across Europe.
The company states that the product will set a new world standard in the use,
installation and maintenance of fibre networks particularly for Fibre-to-the-
Home (FTTH) and indoor applications. Both are rapidly emerging markets
which demand fibre networks for a broad variety of situations, demanding
ease of installation and maintenance.
BendBrightXS has a very low macrobending loss. This means the fibre can be
bent down to the small radius of 15mm, while still offering a signal without
any compromise on attenuation. It also resists ‘kinks’ or micro bending. This
makes a BendBrightXS network very friendly to fibre engineering errors such
as overclamping the fibre and tie wrapping bundles of patch-cords.
In the optical cladding process a special field-confining trench is inserted in
the fibre. This trench keeps the light in the centre of the fibre while being
mistreated by bends or kinks.
