Sri Ganesh,
On all your limbs you wear
The tinkling bells,
Weighty and graceful are
Your steps as you dance
For Her,
Narrating the state of the world,
Rendering with elaborate mudras
The many conditional layers
Of this universe –
Fire and love and light
And knowledge,
And a total absence of fear,
Or self-interest,
Are branded and woven
In you, Sri Ganesh,
Ever since
The Constant
Origin…

In your unique and most sacred
Role
As ambassador and emissary
Between men, gods and
The Supreme –
Who indeed but you
Can represent the gods here,
And who but you
Can convey to them
Human needs and entreaties?
But who, as well,
Is willing and ready
To listen to the deeper call
