THE WOLFENSTEIN STORY

2 1

of the remainder of the game based on what

decision the player made.

The title stays true to the combat and

stealth styles of its predecessors, offering

players a choice of how to tackle each

individual situation; whether to go in guns

blazing, or to be a little more subtle about

things is entirely up to you. The game does,

however, bring a new depth to character

development, with more of B.J.’s (and

others’) back-story explained – to the liking of

audiences.

Players are also able to dual-wield and

heavily customise their weaponry – which

can be found on the ground or retrieved

from dead enemies – with the results being

anywhere from RPG-assault rifle hybrids to

laser cutting tools.

The game managed to achieve a same-day

worldwide release, however the German

version - once again - had all Nazi symbols

and Swastikas removed, as it is a punishable

offense to display Nazi propaganda in the

country.

As far as

The New Order’

s reception went,

the title was praised for its combat system

and ability to invoke a nostalgic atmosphere,

with multiple reviews labelling the stealth

system especially “simple but effective”.

Most recently, the Wolfenstein saga

continues with

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

.

Only a year after

The New Order

landed, this

fresh batch of prequel DLC was announced

to be released on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox

One this coming May.

The DLC will serve fully as a standalone

game, with no need to purchase

The

New Order,

however for those who have

played the game it will provide a valuable

backstory. Set in what looks to be a two-

parter,

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

pits

returning hero BJ against a maniacal prison

warden as he breaks into Castle Wolfenstein

in an attempt to steal the coordinates to

General Deathshead’s compound. Once he’s

recovered said coordinates, the hero must

travel to the aptly-named city of Wulfburg,

where an obsessed Nazi archaeologist is

exhuming mysterious artefacts that threaten

to unleash a dark and dangerous power.

MachineGames reappears to create its

highly-successful reboot’s prequel, meaning

that we can expect all the nostalgia of the

previous game to come rushing back, as well

as see the return of the sophisticated combat

and stealth systems.

With MachineGames once again behind

the wheel, this next in the long line of

Wolfenstein titles will – with any luck -

recreate the legacy of

Wolfenstein 3D

, whilst

still bringing enough to the table to excite

newcomers to the franchise.

Get ready to rewrite history once again.
