Forestry
Products and
Techniques
I
f you look at a photograph of a forest,
undoubtedly the first things you
notice are the trees. Trees, primarily
in their use as timber, are the primary
natural resource we get from the forests.
But, upon closer inspection, there are
many other resources available. These
resources, along with the available
timber, must be carefully managed in
order to most effectively use the resource
now and in the future.
biodegradable:
something
that will decompose
through natural processes.
cultivated:
grown on a farm
where the conditions are
controlled.
decomposer:
an organism
that breaks down wastes
and organic matter.
poaching:
the illegal hunting
or killing of animals or
gathering of plant species.
sap:
a fluid that moves
through a plant; in maples
and some other trees, it can
be tapped and processed.
