Postal Services

The Austrian postal service is quite reliable and efficient though rather expensive compared

to other countries. Domestic letters should normally be delivered within one or two days. The

Austrian Post also offers extra services such as registered mail, tracking services, mail

forwarding services or the like.

Stamps can be purchased at the post offices, at vending machines outside the post offices,

often in kiosks and online via the Austrian Post’s website.

A stamp for a standard letter (national) costs € 0.62, for a “Maxi” letter (up to 500 g, national)

€ 1.45.

Opening hours depend on the post office’s location, but in general most post offices open

from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and on Saturday mornings. Some smaller offices

may close for lunch while main post offices have extended opening hours. The public post

boxes are yellow.
