Postal Services
The Austrian postal service is quite reliable and efficient though rather expensive compared
to other countries. Domestic letters should normally be delivered within one or two days. The
Austrian Post also offers extra services such as registered mail, tracking services, mail
forwarding services or the like.
Stamps can be purchased at the post offices, at vending machines outside the post offices,
often in kiosks and online via the Austrian Post’s website.
A stamp for a standard letter (national) costs € 0.62, for a “Maxi” letter (up to 500 g, national)
€ 1.45.
Opening hours depend on the post office’s location, but in general most post offices open
from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and on Saturday mornings. Some smaller offices
may close for lunch while main post offices have extended opening hours. The public post
boxes are yellow.
The Austrian Post website is available in English also with comprehensive information on its
services and rates, a branch locator and the respective opening hours:
www.post.at/en/index.php.
