Prater / Riesenrad (Giant Ferris Wheel)

, a large public park in Vienna’s second district, offers exciting

attractions on the one hand and a relaxing green atmosphere with meadows, trees and

walking paths on the other. The Wiener Riesenrad (Giant Ferris Wheel), built in 1897 and

located at the entrance to the Prater amusement park, is one of Vienna’s landmarks – enjoy

a ride and have a look at the city from high above.

Schloss Schönbrunn (Schönbrunn Palace)

The UNESCO World Heritage Site Schönbrunn Palace is one of Austria’s major cultural

monuments. It is one of the most beautiful Baroque palaces in Europe and used to be the

imperial family’s summer residence.

Der Ring (The Ring)

Vienna’s splendid grand boulevard (Wiener Ringstraße, or short: Ring) in the first district

circles the historical inner city and boasts numerous marvellous state buildings, cafés and

private mansions, among others the Vienna City Hall and the State Opera House. It is

probably best admired on board the Vienna Ring tram (see chapter 9. for more information).

The Spanish Riding School is a famous traditional riding school for Lipizzaner horses near

the Imperial Palace in central Vienna, which offers public gala performances.

Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral)

The cathedral, one of the most important Gothic buildings in Austria, is one of Vienna’s most

famous landmarks. The cathedral, two towers and the catacombs can be visited.
