MEETING OF THE COUNCIL,
16th March.
Twenty-three members present.
Mr. Charles St. G. Orpen.
The Council passed a resolution expressing
its deep regret on the death of Mr. Charles
St. G. Orpen, a Past President of the Society,
and tendering its sympathy to Mrs. Orpen
and her family in their bereavement.
Irish Manuscripts.
A letter was read from the Irish Manu
scripts Commission stating that it is the
intention of the Commission to re-issue to
all Solicitors in Ireland the circular letter
issued in 1929, seeking information as to
the existence of any documents of Irish
historical value among the papers in their
•offices or elsewhere.
The letter received requested
that
the
•Council would now again,
as
in. 1929,
write to the Commission a letter of recom
mendation to the profession that they would
assist
the Commission
in
its quest
for
information,
a
copy
of
this
letter
to
accompany
the
circular
letter
of
the
Commission.
The Council directed a letter in reply as
requested to be written.
Vocational Organisation.
A letter was read from the Commission
on Vocational organisation
requesting a
statement as to the Constitution and powers
of this Society.
The Council directed that
the request
be complied with.
Proceedings before Controller
of
Patents.
.
A letter in reply was read from the acting
Honorary Secretary of the General Council
of the Bar of Ireland stating that the follow
ing Ruling had been made by his Council:—
That Counsel may be instructed by a
duly registered Patent Agent without the
intervention of
a Solicitor
in non-con
tentious business, and in contentious business
before
the Controller of
Industrial and
Commercial Property, but not
in
any
proceedings in Court.
OBITUARY.
MR. CHARLES ST. GEORGE ORPEN, Solicitor,
died on the 5th March, 1939, in Dublin.
Mr. Orpen served his apprenticeship with
his father, the late Mr. Arthur H. Orpen,
Dublin, was admitted in Michaelmas Sittings,
1888, and was senior member of the firm
of Darley, Orpen and McGillycuddy, 30-31
Kildare Street, Dublin.
He was a member of the Council of the
Society from 1905 to 1920, and filled the
office of President during the year 1915-16.
