TERRAFORMING
A PLANET:
MAKING MARS
THE NEW EARTH
Monday 23rd January 2017
For pupils in Year 6
Terraforming is the process of transforming
a hostile environment into one suitable for
human life. What would it take to green the
red planet? What are the current conditions
on Mars? What conditions are necessary for
life? What makes a planet habitable? How could
Mars be transformed to make it suitable for
human life? These, and many other questions
will be tackled in this Science activity. Pupils will
be given an introductory presentation and then
work in groups to try to solve the problem of
terraforming a planet. Groups will be provided
with research opportunities and material, and will
produce a summary poster of their work. Prizes
will be awarded for the best ideas.
