he 1990 softball
team
is the youn–
gest
team
that has played at USD
for quite a while. With a roster of
sixteen people, ten of them are freshmen,
one is a senior, one junior, and four sopho–
mores. Competition for the
team
consists
of UCSD, Loyola Marymount, Whittier,
and St. Mary's College.
The one senior that is returning for her
fourth and final season is Sarah Berdan.
She is currently the leader in RBI's with
6
and is batting an average of
.300.
Along
with
her hitting, Julie Doria, a walkon to
the team is also hitting an average
.300.
The freshmen of the team are also making
their mark. Hillary Savage is currently
holding on to an ERA of
.37.
Along with
this talent, other freshmen such as Angie
Straub and Tiffany Wasilewski are bring–
ing with them to the Toreras a fine high
school career of softball.
AB
for the season, although it is not over,
at this time their record
is
8-4.
Coach Cau–
dillo feels that if the tam stays above an
average of
.500
over the season, they will
have played a remarkable season, consider–
ing they are so young. The strongest point
at this time is the infield, with the pitching
having an average ERA of
1.97,
while their
opponents have an average ERA of
2.57.
With an outlook like this, the Toreras may
not have a spectacular season this year, but
the youth will improve over time, making
themselves a true competitor in a year or
so.
