I
eseball for the Toreros hes never
~
really been a strong point. But this
season might prove differently for
the Toreros. The team
will be
the youngest
the University has had in competition.
With sixteen returning players, there will
be ten newcomers to add to the roster.
Of the sixteen returning players, seven of
the returners are pitchers. Expected to be
the strong point of the '90 season, three
USD "Pitcher of the
Year"
award winners
will lead on the mound. Senior lefthander
Louis Skertich, junior righthander James
Ferguson and senior righthander Pat Fitz–
simons. As the bullpen "stoppers" our re–
lief will come from Tom Cheek, Bob

Grandpre and Aaron Miller. Sophomores
Peter Keup and Pat Crema, and freshman
Marc Bouchard will be occasional starters.
Defensively, first baseman Rick Doane
and second baseman Jim Keen will also be
asked to shoulder most of the offensive
load. Dave Pingree and Kevin Herde are
slated for shortstop and third. In the out–
field, Paul Thornton moves to rightfield
and freshman Tony Moeder takes his pre–
vious position at center. Jim Alexander

will play left field.
The strength of this years team is de–
fense and pitching. At print time, there is
. no other information we could obtain. We
' wish the baseball team the best of luck.
