Som Københavns fordelagtige Beliggenhed ved

Øresund har skabt dens Betydning som Handels-

og Søfartsby, saaledes har dens skønne Omegn

skabt dens Ry i turistmæssig Henseende. Adskil

lige af Omegnens talrige Udflugssteder — i Sær

deleshed langs den vidunderlige Kyststrækning

mellem København og Helsingør — indgaar for

den Fremmede uvilkaarligt som et væsentligt

Træk i selve Byens Fysiognomi og kan ikke se

nere udskilles derfra. Klampenborg, Dyrehaven,

Skodsborg, Marienlyst og Kronborg ved Helsingør

er de berømte Navne, der altid vil forblive uløse

ligt knyttet til Minderne om et Ferieophold i Kø

benhavn. Ingen af Hovedstadens fremmede Gæster

forsømmer Lejligheden til at besøge disse Steder

— og ingen vil nogensinde glemme dem endsige

fortryde, at de ha r været der.

Mangfoldige og af særegen Skønhed er de Ind

tryk, man modtager paa selv kortere Udflugter

fra Kobenhavn. Indenfor let overkommelige Af

stande, tilbagelagt med fuldt Udbytte bare paa en

Dag, udfolder Nord- og Sydsjælland al sin mest

charmerende Naturpragt i rig Variation: store,

luftige Bøgeskove, glitrende Indsøer og bugtede

Aaløb, frodige Sletter og bakket Agerland, Sand

flugt og Plantageegne. Folkeliv og Skovensomhed

veksler. Aabent for Sol og Vind eller lunt i Sko

ves og Havers Skygge ligger Byerne med deres

ærværdige Kirker, Herregaarde eller Slotte med

deres rige Kunstskatte og Samlinger, mens Villa

byerne og de mondæne Badesteder, Side om Side

med de smaa, hyggelige Fiskerlejer kranser S jæ l

lands Kyst ved Øresund, Kattegat og de dybt ind-

skaarne Fjorde, Issefjord og Roskilde Fjord, saa-

vel som de brede Bugter ved Køge og Præstø

helt ned til Møens pragtfulde Kridtklinter hinsides

det smalle Ulvsund.

In like manner as the advantageous position of

Copenhagen on the Sound has created its import

ance as a commercial and shipping port, so tlie

wonderfully beautiful surroundings of the city

landwards have established ils reputation from the

point of view of the tourist. Many of the numerous

places of excursion in the environs — particularly

along the picturesque stretch of coast between Co

penhagen and Elsinore — cannot bul become to

the visitor, an essential feature in the physiognomy

of the city itself, forming as it were an integral

part of same. Klampenborg, the Deer Park, Skods

borg, Marienlyst and Kronborg castle at Elsinore,

are nanies invariably and indeed inseparably

associated with pleasant reminiscences of a

holiday spent in Copenhagen.

Multifarious and of peculiar beauty are the im-

pressions received on even short excursions.Within

easy distances travelled with full advantage on

ene day only, both Nortli and South Zealand

display in rich variation ils natural magnificence.

One experiences an interesting alternation of folk-

life and the solitude of the forests. Open to the

healthful influence of sun and wind, or snugly

ensconced in the shellered shade of woods and

gardens, lie the towns with their venerable chur-

ches,manors or castle, containing rich art treasures

and colleclions, whilst villa towns and the fashion

able watering places side by side with little cozy

fishing hamlets garland the coasts of Zealand.

Of all this ample choice of places admirably

suited for excursions, only the more import an t will

be mentioned in detail. Each of these trips can

easily be done in one day.

1. Charlottenlund, Klampenborg and the

Deer Park.

The trip can be made by rail (from the central

Station, the Norreport station, or Osterbro station)

by boat (to Klampenborg) or by tram (route 14)

along the "Strandvej” road to the north. About

midway lies the

Charlottenlund wood,

with much

pretty scenery. To the left of the entrance from

the road itself lies the

Charlottenlund Palace,

the

summer residence of H. R. H. the Dowager

Queen Louise, surrounded by a large park.
