Zoologisk Have.

Haven, der blev grundlagt i 1859, har siden

vokset sig stor og smuk og indtager nu en Første

plads blandt Hovedstadens Seværdigheder, ikke

blot som Dyrepark, men ogsaa som Haveanlæg og

Udflugtssted, hvor der afholdes fortrinlige Kon

certer hele Sommeren igennem, og hvor ogsaa an

den Underholdning gives.

Af store Dyr huser Haven et pragtfuldt Elefantpar,

»Jumbo« og »Ellen« paa henholdsvis 20 og 30 Aar,

to vældige Flodheste, »Jeppe« 20 Aar og »August«

12 Aar, endvidere to store, smukke Antiloper og

mange Løver, Tigre, Pantere, Pumaer og Losser.

Løverne har været flinke til at sætte Afkom i Ver

den, i 1923 var der tre Unger og i 1924 to, der sta

dig tumler om i deres henrivende Klodsethed i

Selskab med en Hund.

Af Sjældenheder ejer Haven et Par af den nu

næsten uddøde evropæiske Bison-Race, samt et

Par engelsk Parkkvæg. Begge disse Dyrepar er

hvert Aar med Kalv.

Alt i alt ha r Haven henved 1500 Dyr og Fugle,

hvis Opholdssted i Haven saa vidt muligt er til-

læmpet efter deres Art og naturlige Vaner, i Bure,

Basiner eller store Indhegninger under aaben

Himmel, hvor de lever deres Liv saa at sige for

aabent Tæppe, i lige høj Grad til Underholdning

og Belæring for det talrige Publikum.

The zoological gardens.

This institution ”The Zoo”, established in 1859,

has gradually grown to its present beauty and d i

mensions, and now occupies a prominent place

amongst the sights of the city, not merely by

reason of the excellent zoological collection, but

also as prettily laid out grounds, a popular place

for excursions. Excellent concerts are held here

all through the summer, and also other entertain-

ments are provided.

Of large animals the gardens contain a couple

of splendid elephants: ’Mumbo” and ”Ellen”, re-

spectively 20 and 30 years old; two enormous

hippotomi: "Jeppe”, 20 years old, and "August”,

12 years; further two large and beautiful antilopes,

in addition to many lions, tigers, panthers, pumas,

tynxeis etc. The number of lions have increased by

three cubs in 1923, and two in 1924, and the latter

now disport themselves in their delightful ungain-

liness togeither with two dogs.

Of rareties the Zoo possesses a couple of the

now almost extinct European bison-ox, and a

couple of English park-cattle. Both these couples

are with calf every year.

All told there are some 15 hundred animals and

hirds, whose quarters have, as far as possible, been

adapted to their kind, and natural habits, in cages,

basins or large enclosures, where they live their

life, so to speak in the open, to the equal delecta-

tion and instruction of the numerous visitors.

The following tramway route s run to the three

different entrances of the gardens: Routes 6, 19, 9

and 18 to the corner of Vesterbrogade and Pile-

alle, for the entrance from Roskilde highroad near

the Frederiksberg palace; Route 15 to the Frede

riksberg Runddel, for the entrance from the Frede

riksberg Park, and route 1 to Frederiksvej, for

the entrance from Fasanvej.
