Our 2001 work programme is the second stepping stone in our
2000-2005 strategic plan. We are going to continue our support
to UNEP within our three core competencies:

Environmental Information
•
Communications
•
Capacity Building and Tools
Our geographic focus will continue to be the Polar and Baltic
Regions, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, but increased focus
will be given to support UNEP's global activities.
Highlights in the 2001 work programme include:
Technical support to UNEP's new global environmental in-
formation portal
UNEP.net;
Coordination of inputs to
UNEP.netfrom Polar and Baltic
regions, Eastern Europe and Central Asia;
Expand the Cities Environment Report On the Internet
(CEROI) programme to more cities;
Prepare the Polar chapter for UNEP's new global state of the
environment report - GEO 3;
Expand UNEP's electronic bookshop
Earthprint.com;
Prepare an Information and Communication Technology
(ICT) strategy for UNEP within the framework of UNEP-
net/Mercure;
Encourage harmonisation of tools, methods and capacity
building in support to the UNEP/DEWA program;
Continue our programme on better understanding of the
impact of information on decision-making in co-operation
with major user groups;
Test new indicators to measure performance vis-a-vis our
mission and increase management focus on staff develop-
ment and team building.
