Ooty. Second largest of the three hill stations of the “Nilgiris’
and stands on the lower ridge of the main plateau.

and Lady Canning's seat, Loz Falls.

PERIYAR

Oct.-June. : It has an artificial lake (which has many delightful
crecks, waterways, promontories and islands, thus rendering it
possible to get good views of wooded hills and valleys, with
grassy areas where glimpses of wildlife can be had). The ani-
mals seen here are - Wild elephants, Gaur (Indian Bison),
Sambar, barking deer, Tiger, Leopard, Sloth Beer and Cherro-
tain (rare). Water-birds are fairly well represented here, and
other birds include hornbills (two species). The whole area of
the sanctuary abounds in lovely natural scenery in one of the
most beautiful parts of India. The sanctuary is unique in India.
