I used to be an accountant. But once I met my grandfather

who was a basketmaker, it changed my life. I followed in

his footsteps with a first workshop in Lacapelle Biron, then I

moved to Issigeac last year. Why did I pick this village? For

its popularity with tourists and in particular, for the Sunday

morning market around the church that draws such a great

crowd. In my workshop I make traditional objects in natural

wicker: carboy (bottle) baskets, lamps, baskets…I also

organise weaving workshops all year round.

What’s that wonderful aroma that sometimes floats

around the streets of Isseac? It comes from the Taste

Vin where Jean-Marie Roubaud roasts his coffee.

Torrefaction for three quarters of an hour at 200 degrees

releases all the flavour of coffee beans from Colombia,

Mexico, Ethiopia and Guatemala!

for the market”

Places

After 20 years existence, Issigeac Market has become a real

attraction in the Perigord region. Residents and visitors

alike, flock here every Sunday morning to stock up on fresh

produce. The event assembles market-gardeners selling

organic produce, vintners with their best wines, cheese-

makers and cured meat specialists with pepper, cep or even

blueberry-seasoned sausage. Numerous craft workers come

to display their talent all year round. After the market take a

seat at a café to decide on your recipe… unless you prefer to

dine at one of the five restaurants in the village.
