Seventeenth Century Classicism
Like the great majority of the Dordogne’s castles, Hautefort
A
, can claim medieval
origins. Totally transformed in theXVIIth century, the castle’s defensive systemsmade
way to large French formal gardens
(above)
as the fortress was turned into a stately
residence. Visitors can immerse themselves in the resplendent regal atmosphere as
they discover the furnished apartments, reception rooms, the chapel, and the Tower
of Brittany with its underground passageways

. EveryWednesday night during
the summer, entertaining dramatised tours reveal the major and minor, secrets of
history. And from April 1st, the castle hosts an exhibition called: “50 Years of Cinema
at Hautefort”.
