Speak Out

October 2015

33

The Vic Branch

celebrated the

end of Speech Pathology Week 2015

in style with a trivia night at Bridie

O’Reilly’s in Brunswick. In what seems

like it is becoming a tradition, 120

people including speech pathologists,

students and invited guests enjoyed

the chance to discuss the ‘week that

was’ with a meal, good company and

entertainment. There was certainly

much talking…

The Member Engagement Committee

comprises Speech Pathology Australia

members, both practising speech

pathologists and student members

who are representatives of student

bodies from the universities. All

were on hand to set out the posters

promoting Speech Pathology Week

and the donated materials and to

welcome our guests.

Our trivia was provided by

QuizMeisters: after a slight delay due

to traffic we got off to a flying start.

The 15 teams faced two rounds of

general questions, some musical and

film clips, a speech pathology specific

round and a musical knowledge

marathon covering all music played

during the course of the night. The

scientific use of a mini cricket bat as

a heads or tails substitute allowed the

element of chance some of us needed

in the absence of actual knowledge of

the material.

It was all fun on the night and no one

was sprung Googling the answers.

Who knew that the Arnott’s biscuit

range was so extensive? And there

were prizes… guests received door

prizes in the form of speech pathology

materials, vouchers, books, wine and

chocolates. Most of the chocolates

seemed to be eaten for inspiration if

the wrappers on some lucky tables

were any indication.

After a draw and a decider play off,

Table 10 was declared the winner to

much acclaim. We all felt special and

our Coles Myer gift vouchers were

much appreciated. We could not have

done it without our co-team captains;

Jane-Elise and Dean Cherry.

The Branch was well supported by

donors who provided a variety of

materials for each table as well as

prizes.
