Speech Pathology Australia
BRANCH news
WESTERN AUSTRALIA
The WA Branch
held a stand at
the 2015 Pregnancy Babies and
Children’s Expo which ran in Perth
from Friday 31 July until Sunday
2 August. This expo is a national event
and attracts more than 1.5 million
adults nationally each year. The expo
aims to provide information, resources
and advice from individuals involved
in early childhood.
Volunteer speech pathologists
and speech pathology students
represented Speech Pathology
Australia at the expo in Perth in
order to promote the profession of
speech pathology, increase awareness
of speech and language development
and provide information on how to
access speech pathology services
in Western Australia.
Over 400 people visited our stand
in order to ask questions and obtain
information on how to find a speech
pathologist. Questions were based
on developmental milestones and
how to promote speech and language
development in children. Fact sheets
from the Speech Pathology Australia
website were distributed to parents.
Children’s books were displayed
which appeared to attract people to
the stand and were used to promote
book sharing with babies and children.
It was fulfilling to be able to speak
to such a large number of parents
and soon to be parents and help
them understand the importance
of speech and language development.
A big thank you to our amazing
volunteers who were informative,
friendly and passionate!
