Since forming, WTM has always had customer satisfaction as

its main target.

This has meant listening and understanding the different

production needs and designing the equipment with the aim of

offering the best and the most advanced technological solution.

Together with the evolution of the cable industry, WTM has

achieved a very high technical and technological level with its

machines, in different fields of tape application and treatment.

The taping lines for the insulation with polyimide and PTFE

tapes have been integrated with sintering (sealing) systems

developing the technology of salt bath ovens in addition to the

traditional IR light and resistors ovens.

The taping machines, in particular those with horizontal layout,

are put in line with induction pre-heaters, if requested, then

ovens, with fully automatic opening and closing movements

during start-stop phases.

Subsequently, the layer is consolidated by compacting units

and cooling equipment. WTM offers the treatment of multiple

wires, including with different diameters, to obtain final

products of very high quality.

Knowing all the problems and criticality of coaxial cables, WTM

has designed lines that treat such cables with extreme delicacy,

through the elimination of vibration sources and of repetitive

errors/noises.

Dancers are also eliminated from these lines with the aim of

reducing the quantity of surfaces in contact with the cable, and

even devices that help to avoid curving the cables through the

production process are employed.

The results are cables suitable for extremely high frequencies

having good signal transmission and reduced stationery waves.

In the field of the machines for testing cables, WTM produces

lines that allows the testing of cables through torsions and

bending movements so to submit the production at the most

severe international norms.

WTM test machines are multi-position, and have the widest

possibility of setting: times, rotation angles, speed, cycle

numbers, etc.

One of the latest and most advanced solutions is the Visio

System which has been created for helping cable production

with several overlapped tapes wrapped in the same direction

with constant displacement.

It is now available for many different measurements and for

quality control procedures, even on the whole surface of the

taped cable.

WTM’S innovations through the years

Competitive advantage through

radio-based wire tension control

With its radio-based RTM X42-series and a wide range of

force measuring rollers, FMS offers innovative, trend-setting

systems for wire tension control in stranding machines.

Since its first introduction two years ago, RTM X42 has

evolved from a pure tension monitoring device to a

multi-purpose control and analysis system. Its ingenious

interface concept has been expanded to now provide recipe

controlled operation and the processing of encoder signals.

The product family is offered in four different basic versions. A

sensible combination of these versions is possible.

RTM X42.IO: With analogue outputs for controlling

capability via a PLC

RTM X42.PC: Tension monitoring with data processing

and analysis capability

RTM X42.MODBUS: Provides a flexible interface concept

adapting to any bus system used in the machine. It allows

real-time control of breaks or drives

RTM X42.MP: Processing of encoder signals eg for close

loop control of drives and the control of the traverse

guide in individual bobbins

RTM X42 utilises force measurement rollers to capture the

tension value of individual wires or strands, and then securely

transmits this data from the rotating to the static portion of

the machine. This all happens over a radio link and without

troublesome slip rings.
