MEETING OF THE COUNCIL.

25th June.

Twenty-eight Members present.

Professorship.

Eleven applications were received from

barristers and solicitors for the Professorship

of Real Property, Equity and Conveyancing,

and were referred to the Court of Examiners

to interview the applicants, and to submit

the names of three of the applicants to the

Council to elect a Professor therefrom.

Insurance.

A Report from the Parliamentary Com–

mittee on the Insurance under Health and

Unemployment Acts of Assistant Solicitors

was adopted.

Finance Bill.

Clauses of the Finance Bill, 1931, dealing

with

income-tax were

referred

to

the

Parliamentary Committee.

OBITUARY.

ME. ROBERT J. AIKEN, Solicitor, died upon

6th June, 1931, at Londonderry.

Mr. Aiken served his apprenticeship with

Sir F. H. Miller, was admitted in Trinity

Sittings, 1895, and practised at Londonderry.

MR. GUY B. PILKINGTON, Solicitor, died

upon 17th June, 1931, at his residence,

" Carrick," Burlington Road, Dublin.

Mr. Pilkington served his apprenticeship

with the late Mr. W. Grove White, Dublin,

was admitted in Hilary Sittings, 1888, and

practised as a member of the firm of Wm. C.

Hogan and Sons, at 3 Lower Merrion Street,

Dublin.

MR. EDWARD CHUTE, Solicitor, died upon

17th, June, 1931, at Liverpool.

Mr. Chute was admitted in Michaelmas

Sittings, 1895, and practised at Tralee up to

1922, when he retired.

MR. JOHN GUINEY, Solicitor, died upon

19th June, 1931, at his residence, Egmont

Place, Kanturk, Co. Cork.

Mr. Guiney was admitted

in Hilary

Sittings, 1892, and practised at Kanturk.

MR. JOHN T. O'CoNNOR, Solicitor, died

upon 22nd June, 1931, at his residence,

" St. Johns," Dalkey, Co. Dublin.

Mr. O'Connor was admitted in Trinity

Term, 1872, and practised up to 1924, when

he retired.

He was Solicitor to the Congested Districts

Board from 1904 to 1924.

MR. MICHAEL CARTAN O'MEARA, Solicitor,

died upon 28th June, 1931, at his residence,

8 Hatch Street, Dublin.

Mr. O'Meara was admitted in Trinity

Sittings, 1875, and practised as a member

of the firm of Cartan O'Meara and Kieran, at

27 South Frederick Street, Dublin.

SOLICITORS' GOLFING SOCIETY.

The Annual Competition was held at

Woodbrook (by kind permission) on the 2nd

June. Over fifty members took part.
