Zumbach Electronic has introduced new modular
additions to its line of rotating gauges. The SMR product
line is claimed to offer significant advantages over other
gauges in the fast and accurate capture of dimensions in
longitudinal and radial direction.
SMR gauges rotate continuously at 60 or 100rpm. Up to three
ODAC® laser heads take 2,000 measurements per second per
head, fully synchronised. This results in up to ten complete
profiles per second, which is faster than previous gauges.
Alternatively, the SMR can operate in static, orientable
mode with 2,000 diameter dimension measurements per
second in each direction. At 100m/sec this means a set of
measurements every 50mm.
The mechanical concept is simple and robust: no wear
parts, no collector rings and no brakes. The transmission
of power and signals to and from the laser heads is fully
contactless.
Standard and special software features include EPM
function for true section display, with polygonal and
asymmetric shape deviations; special functions for
three-roll mills; head and tail scrap calculation; and flexible,
personalised screens.
Benefits include faster start-up, less scrap, tighter
tolerances, display of true shape, and trouble-free
maintenance with quick and easy access to the
maintenance points. The gauges are suitable for hot and
cold processes and QC.
