If a board of education and board of elections agree, they may establish
a program permitting certain students to serve as precinct officers at an
election. Eligible students must be U.S. citizens, at least 17 years old,
and enrolled in the senior year of high school. While they can serve as
precinct officers, they cannot perform the duties of presiding judge.
Participating students must be excused from school on the day of the
election. If a precinct has six or more officers, up to two students may
serve as election officers in that precinct. However, only one student
may serve if the precinct has fewer than six officers.

ELECTION OF
BOARD MEMBERS
Candidates for membership on a local or exempted village school
district shall have their nominating petitions signed by 25 qualified
electors of the school district.
Nominating petitions for candidates for members of a board of
education of a city school district having a population of less than
20,000 as ascertained by the next preceding federal census shall be
signed by 25 qualified electors of the school district.
Nominating petitions for candidates for members of a board of
education of a city district having a population of 20,000 or more but
less than 50,000 shall be signed by 75 qualified electors.
Nominating petitions for candidates for members of a board of
education of a city district having a population of 50,000 or more, but
less than 100,000, shall be signed by 150 qualified electors.
Nominating petitions for candidates for members of a board of
education of a city district having a population of 100,000 or more shall
be signed by 300 qualified electors.
Nominating petitions for candidates for members of the governing board
of an educational service center shall be signed by 50 qualified electors
of either: 1) any of the school districts over which the service center
governing board has jurisdiction; or 2) the sub-district in which the
candidate is running (if that governing board is elected from sub-
districts).
Candidates for state board of education shall be made by nominating
petition...signed by not less than 1 percent of the number voting for
governor or 500 whichever is the lesser number.
The filing fees are $30 for a member of a local board of education and
$55 for a member of the state board of education.
Petitions must be filed with the board of elections not later than 4 p.m.
on the 90th day before the general election.
Generally, a board of elections is not to accept nominating petitions
from a person who has already filed to run for another office.

EMERGENCY LEVY
A board of education of a city, exempted village, local, cooperative
education, or joint vocational school district may propose an emergency
levy for a period of up to ten years even if renewing an emergency levy
of shorter duration.
