CHAPTER 3

HEALTH, SAFETY, AND WORKLIFE

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

ICMA‑RC sponsors an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) that offers you and your family members

confidential information and assistance with a wide variety of work or personal issues. This includes

traditional support services for issues such as alcoholism, health concerns, and workplace problems; but it

also includes issues you may not associate with an EAP, such as adoption, financial problems, grieving, eating

disorders, divorce issues, student life, elder care, veterinary care, college selection, or other work/life concerns.

Participation in the EAP does not jeopardize job security or career opportunities. Likewise, participation in

the EAP does not exempt associates from their normal job requirements or allow exceptions to standard work

practices and policies.

EAP Services

All regular associates and their immediate family members are eligible for EAP services as of the date of hire.

The EAP benefit provides a number of personal sessions with a counselor per family member per year at no

cost to the associate. If additional service or treatment is necessary beyond the prescribed visits, care should be

coordinated through the mental health benefit, if applicable, under the ICMA‑RC associate’s medical plan.

The EAP counselor can help to coordinate the transition of care to a participating mental health provider

under the applicable medical option. Although you are responsible for paying the cost of any additional

counseling or services, the cost can be minimized when the care is coordinated through mental health

providers and facilities that participate in our health care plans.

Human Resources has information and brochures available regarding EAP services.

Confidentiality

All information about associates’ participation in the EAP is held in strict confidence. Only the EAP provider

maintains internal records. The EAP provider does not release specific information about an associate’s use

of EAP services unless the associate gives prior written consent. The EAP provides ICMA‑RC with general

statistical data such as gender, age and dates of counseling so that the usage and effectiveness of the EAP can

be evaluated. The EAP does not release names or other identifying statistics.
