The opening meeting of the Society was held on
the 26th October, when the President of the Society,
the Honourable Mr. Justice Murnaghan addressed
the Society on " the Witness and the Advocate ".
The next meeting of the Society was held on the
30th November, 1961, at the Royal Hibernian Hotel,
Dublin, at 8 p.m., when Mr. Vincent Grogan,
Barrister-at-Law read a paper on " Law and Custom
in Ghana ".
Other meetings arranged for this session of the
Society include papers by the Honourable Mr. Justice
Walsh on
" The Preliminary
Investigation of
Indictable Offences " and by Dr. J. P. Brennan,
County Coroner for the County of Dublin on " The
History and Functions of the Coroner's Court".
The annual dinner of the Society will be held in
February.
The object of the Society is to promote Medico-
Legal knowledge in all its aspects and ordinary
membership is open to members of the medical and
legal professions in Ireland and to others specially
interested in medico-legal matters. Candidates for
membership to the Society must be proposed and
seconded by a member and elected by the Council.
Further particulars of the Society may be obtained
from the honorary secretary, Miss Agnes B. Cassidy,
