THE MOUNTAINS,
THE HEART OF
THE PROVINCE
In the northeast
part of the pro-
vince the moun-
tain chain of Cá-
diz is located,
the region inclu-
des a bigger
number of villa-
ges (Alcalá del
Valle, Algar, Al-
godonales, Arcos de la
Frontera, Benaocaz, Bor-
nos, El Bosque, El Gastor,
Espera, Grazalema, Olvera,
Prado del Rey, Puerto Se-
rrano, Setenil de las Bode-
gas, Torre Alháquime,
Ubrique, Villaluenga del
Rosario, Villamartín y Za-
hara de la Sierra). The re-
gion knows how to take
advantage of their envi-
ronment and
offer nature,
gastronomy and
adventure to
those who are
willing to visit a
unique environ-
ment, which is
not polluted
with tourism
bad habits. At
this time of the
year, it is especially char-
ming the living recrea-
tions of nativity scenes
held in their villages, whe-
re the locals participate
proudly.
GOLF AND SURF AT
THE END OF EUROPE
The Campo de Gibraltar re-
gion, when winter comes,
turns into one of the best
corners of Europe to practi-
ce sport, especially golf. So-
togrande (inside the village
of San Roque) is one the Eu-
ropean golf Mecca. The Val-
derrama Golf Club and the
Real Club de Golf, both in
this urbanization, has been
included in the top-five of
the best facilities to practice
golf in Spain according to
the specialized magazine
Golf Digest. In the number one we can
find a classic by its excellence, Valde-
rrama Golf Club in Sotogrande. It is
considered one of the best golf courses
in Spain, and it is the 40th of the best
golf courses of the world outside the
USA. It is famous, among some other
reasons, because it is the only golf
course in the continental Europe whe-
re the Ryder Cup has been held. The
other club that makes part
of this list is the Real Club
de Golf in Sotogrande; it is
considered as one of the
masterpieces of the golf
course architect Robert
Trent Jones, who includes it
in his top-five favourite golf
courses among the 500 he
has designed. The other
sport changes grass with
wind and water. Surf, and
its different styles, has in
Tarifa its main destination
in Europe thanks to the
hours of wind and the soft-
ness of the weather, as well as the sur-
fer atmosphere that can be breath in
the village. Tarifa also offers the possi-
bility of watching cetacean in their na-
tural environment.
JEREZ, SUMMARY
OF ANDALUCÍA
Jerez is the only village of
the province of Cádiz, that
by its population and wide
surface, it is in itself a re-
gion. Jerez gathers some of
the most characteristics
elements of the province.
Located at the heart of the
province, this year the city
has been the European ca-
pital of wine
and has orga-
nized dozens
of activities
to celebrate
it. Many visi-
tors arrived
charmed by
its numerous Flamenco
performances that develop
in the region during the
whole year. Moreover, in
the city the facilities of the
Real Escuela Andaluza de
Arte Ecuestre (The Royal
Andalusian School
of Equestrian Art)
are held. To sum up,
the city of Jerez in-
cludes three of the
characteristics that
attract more foreig-
ner visitor to Anda-
lucía: wine (its fine wine is
real golden liquid), flamen-
co (the most genuine in
Santiago neighbourhood)
and Spanish pure tho-
roughbred horses.
