COMAU has been given the Volvo
Quality Excellence Award by Volvo Car
Corporation, for an innovative industrial
project undertaken five years ago that is
still in full development.
The project relates to the provisioning
of production facilities for the XC90,
S90 and V90 cars, in which Comau
developed the commodities ‘framing’
using the geometric transportation
system VersaPallet (a system made by
Comau). The technological core of the
plant consists of a framing station, where
ten robots simultaneously assembly the
body of the three different models.
In order to successfully complete the
project, Comau leveraged its know-
how and advanced design techniques,
based on virtual engineering and
virtual commissioning, which facilitate
a reduction in design time as well as
project deployment risks.
However, the results achieved
would not have been possible by only
relying on the company’s technological
skills. Comau states that it achieved
the Volvo Quality Excellence Award
largely through the efforts of the people
who were involved in the project, and
through corporate values such as
willingness to listen to customer needs,
reliability in terms of the commitments
undertaken, and the will to achieve the
promised results.
Comau uses the latest technology and
processes to deliver advanced turnkey
systems. The company specialises in
body joining and assembly, powertrain
machining and assembly, robotics and
maintenance, as well as advanced
production systems and environmental
services for a wide range of industrial
sectors.

power hydraulics expert
PONAR Wadowice SA, part of Ponar
Silesia, has signed a contract for the
May 2016 delivery of a Seco/Warwick
CaseMaster Evolution (CME) low
pressure carburising (LPC) furnace.
The furnace – a standard design for
Seco/Warwick – is said to be proven in
a range of LPC applications, and able
to address many technical challenges in
LPC, including oil hardening.
Ponar Wadowice designs and
produces complete solutions for the
power hydraulics industry. Its products
are used in mining, metallurgy, energy,
mechanical, chemical and military.
“We are moving to a new stage of
development in Ponar Wadowice and
we are happy to implement this state-
of-the-art technology that offers a new
quality as far as reliability, continuity of
service, efficiency and quality of the final
product is concerned,” said Rafal Worek,
operation director of Ponar Wadowice.
The new CaseMaster Evolution
is a double chamber furnace with
oil quenching system. It prevents
intergranular oxidation through the
process of low pressure carburising
in vacuum furnace. It is equipped with
FineCarb
®
low pressure carburising
technology, and PreNitLPC
®
technology
for intensive vacuum carburising.
The furnace is expected to deliver
higher quality final products than
atmospheric furnaces. It is up to 40 per
cent more cost efficient, as well as being
safer for the environment and providing
an increase in production of 15 per cent.
“We are very happy to provide this
sophisticated solution to a company from
Poland where the roots of Seco/Warwick
are,” said Paweł Wyrzykowski, president
and CEO of Seco/Warwick Group. “I
believe that our technology will slowly
change the competitiveness of Polish
companies in the global market and
locally improve environment and worker
safety.”
