Silver-Line certifies another facility

The Plastic Pipe and Fittings Association

(PPFA) has announced that Silver-

Line Plastics, the first North American

plastic pipe producer to be certified

to PPFA’s Sustainable Manufacturing

Conformity Assessment Program for

Plastic Piping Components (SM-CAP),

has added its Fort Pierce, Florida,

facility to the certification. All of Silver-

Line’s manufacturing facilities (North

Carolina, Oklahoma and Florida) have

now earned certification.

The programme certifies reductions

in a manufacturer’s year-over-year

environmental footprint by careful

analysis and measurement of resource

use. Ricky Silver, president and CEO of

Silver-Line Plastics, said, “We strongly

believe in the programme PPFA has

established, which encourages all

manufacturers in our industry to join us

in an effort to improve our environmental

footprint and create efficiencies in our

manufacturing processes. Having all of

our facilities certified to the programme

is a significant accomplishment for

our company, considering that this

challenging programme requires us to

examine all of our resource usage and

operational processes.”

Certification to SM-CAP means that a

facility meets the requirements set forth

in PPFA’s Sustainable Manufacturing

Standard (SMS-01-2012). The standard

establishes requirements for measuring

both the existing environmental

performance and the continuous

improvement by manufacturers of

plastic piping system components.

SMS 01-2012 applies to those who

manufacture plastic piping system

components and to the resources used

in the manufacturing process. SM-CAP

creates year-to-year reductions in water

use, energy use, packaging materials

waste, material conversion efficiency,

and product material waste. In addition,

criteria are set to promote plant safety,

safe product use, continual participation

in industry life cycle analysis, maintaining

certification for American National

Standards governing product quality

and safety.

Richard Church, PPFA’s executive

director stated, “Our members felt PPFA

needed to create a programme that

challenged the industry to continue to

improve the process to leave less and

less of an environmental footprint.”

Thermoplastic pipemarket to

reach 576million tons by 2019

The report ‘Thermoplastic Pipe Market

by Polymer Types (PE, PVDF, PVC,

PA, and PP) Application (Oil & Gas,

Mining & Dredging and Chemicals) and

Geography (APAC, Americas, Europe,

Middle East and Africa) – Global Trends

& Forecasts to 2019’, published by

MarketsandMarkets, defines and

segments the thermoplastic pipe market

with analysis and forecasting of volume

for thermoplastic pipes. It also identifies

driving and restraining factors for the

thermoplastic pipe market with analysis

of trends and opportunities.

The

market

applications

for

thermoplastic pipe include oil and gas,

municipal, mining and dredging, and

chemicals. The oil and gas application

of thermoplastic pipes is estimated to

grow with an increasing demand for

flexible pipes, umbilicals and risers.

In 2013, Asia-Pacific was the largest

market for thermoplastic pipe and

accounted for a market share of about

40.7 per cent.

The thermoplastic pipe market is

projected to grow at a CAGR of 7.8

per cent, with increasing demand in the

Asia-Pacific region.

The increase in demand for municipal

and chemical applications in this region

is the prime driver for market growth.

The leading companies in thermoplastic

pipe continuously invest in R&D to

introduce new products and solutions

according to market demand.

Considering the demand in the market,

these companies are also expanding

their facilities to increase production

capacity and strengthen their global
