Blu-ray and 4K UHD showcase the traditional

alien design.

Covenant

is also not only the first

'official' Alien film since

Alien: Resurrection

back in

1997, it's the first Alien film to get a 4K UHD release,

and the transfer promises to be a stunner. Here's

hoping the other four films in the franchise, along

with

Prometheus

, will receive a 4K upgrade soon.

Say what you will about Guy Ritchie's polarising

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

ollectors of classic

cinema are well

served this month with

the release of several

all-time greats on

Blu-ray.

The Graduate

(1967) receives a high

definition release for

its 50th Anniversary. Capturing

the disaffected youth of California

in the sixties and the sexual

liberation of Dustin Hoffman by

Anne Bancroft's Mrs Robinson,

Mike Nichols' masterpiece is

iconic and influential cinema.

And it also propelled Simon &

Garfunkel into the charts. Out

any, this one belongs

in every collector's war

section.

Staying with

WWII,

The Dam

Busters

(1955) is a

bona fide Brit classi

c

that chronicles the

true story of the

British mission to

bomb the dams

in the German

Ruhr Valley and thus cripple

the Nazi steel factories. All it

takes is some stiff-upper-lip

courage, a 30 ton bomb, and low

flying Lancasters. A genuinely

suspenseful and thrilling

adventure,

The Dam Busters

is

another must-have. Out Aug 16.

A love letter to the dark

underbelly of

Tinseltown,

Mullholland

Drive

(2001) is

arguably David

Lynch's finest

film, and has

been long unavailable on home

video formats. The relationship

between a Hollywood

hopeful (Naomi Watts)

and an amnesiac actress

(Laura Elena Harring)

sets in motion a chain of

nightmarish events that

form part of a larger puzzle

the viewer must assemble.

The brilliance of

Mulholland

Drive

is that no matter how

many times you watch it, you'll

have a different interpretation

of what's going on – or see

something obvious you missed

the last time around. Not many

movies have the ability to pull

that off, which is why Lynch's

masterpiece is an essential

purchase on Aug 16.

JB HD EXCLUSIVES

agree that this aural and visual

assault on the senses is going

to look superb on Blu-ray and

4K, and JB have a limited edition

Steelbook up for grabs from Aug 16

while stocks last.

The Blu-ray edition of

JohnWick:

Chapter 2

is also available exclusively

at JB stores on Aug 23. The dynamic

sequel to the 2014 sleeper hit and Keanu

comeback vehicle expands the world of

the eponymous assassin and ups the

body count accordingly. Slick, stylish and

neon-drenched visuals make this action

extravaganza a must-see in high-def.

Ambitious Aussie sci-fi flick

The Osiris Child:

Science Fiction – Volume 1

boasts impressive visual

effects which will be best appreciated on Blu-ray, and

JB has an exclusive edition featuring striking alternate

artwork available on Aug 23. We'll leave you to ponder

the franchise potential promised by the subtitle...
