Metals impact testing
INSTRON, a provider of testing
equipment designed to evaluate
mechanical properties of materials and
components, has released the MPX
series of motorised pendulum impact
testers that are used in metal impact
testing to Charpy and Izod standards.
The MPX series offers a range of
testing capabilities from 300 to 900
joules and it comes standard with
Fracta™ software, which allows for
reliable data acquisition and reporting
of absorbed energy. If more advanced
impact analysis and reporting is needed,
upgrading to Impulse™ data acquisition
software and instrumentation will allow
for direct measurement of impact force
and striker velocity.
The MPX is designed with an
automatic test start as soon as
the door closes, allowing for rapid
testing and improving throughput
while conforming to the international
standards for non-ambient testing.
The feature fully complies with NIST 5
second guidelines, specifiying the time
it should take for the specimen to leave
the temperature conditioner and for the
test to be complete.
On the MPX, interchangeable
hammer weights allow for quick and
simple adjustment of the impact
energy, removing the need for the
time-consuming process of changing
hammer shafts.
The MPX features an integrated
guard and safety control system that
meets the stringent requirements for the
European CE mark and for ISO 13849.
The operator is protected at all times
during machine operation.

New corporate image and new
machines from Crippa
TO coincide with the rebranding of
its corporate image, Crippa launched
five new machines during the Tube
Düsseldorf exhibition: four bending
machines and one forming machine.
The company also has two new
systems: BrainBox, for monitoring
production; and Easygauge, a system for
dimensional measuring through images.
The measurement is instantaneous,
reducing the time required by traditional
techniques.
Thesoftwarenamed ‘U.I.I.’, completely
produced by Crippa, provides a man-
machine interface that simplifies the job
of the user.
The new machine solutions from
Crippa are detailed below.
The SMALL2R, an evolution of the
SMALL1 series, is a machine for right
and left cycle bending of aluminium pipes
up to 20mm in reverse configuration. It
is also available in a linear version.
The main C axis drive is placed directly
behind the bending level. The locking
clamp is made through a toggle-actuated
electric system, while the pressure-die
is a CNC axis with rack and pinion. The
head moves with the typical cross motion
and is also driven by rack and pinion.
The 955LE is a fully electric bending
machine for steel pipes up to 55mm,
with right or left reconfigurable bending.
It integrates the characteristics of
the 942LE/XE and 980LE for what
the company believes to be the best
solutions of each model. It has the ability
to accommodate numerous bending
levels and to ensure multi-level bending
with variable radius in the automatic
cycle. The 955LE can bend both right
and left through a rapid reconfiguration.
The fully electric 980HE bending
machine for steel pipes up to 80mm
is an evolution of the 980LE, and was
designed to enhance the capacity to
accommodate several bending levels,
to carry out multi-
level and multi-radius
bending, with variable
radius in the automatic
cycle. The machine is
able to accommodate
a cutting knife system
during the cycle (both
single blade and
with pre-cut). The
fully electric 114HE
heavy series bending
machine for steel
pipes up to 114mm is robust with wide
vertical amplitude. The vertical shift
option for the slide allows the use of a
single slide for the different bending
levels, eliminating the collision problem
that occurs in case of large diameter
differences in the tooling. The compact
bending head moves only in X-direction,
sliding on pairs of recirculating roller
trolleys.
