IBA

Stand: 10B47

IBA’s Easy-e-Beam® crosslinking technology, based on a

Dynamitron® electron beam accelerator, has been successfully

used for over 50 years in numerous industrial applications. In the

cable and wiring industry, it has been employed for decades to

treat polymer wire and cable insulation and jacketing. Crosslinking

provides halogen-free, environmentally friendly wire and cables

with improved resistance to abrasion, high temperatures,

chemicals, mechanical forces, and more. With Easy-e-Beam® V3,

IBA has enhanced the overall customer experience, streamlining

integration with on-premise equipment, and increased

user-friendliness with an improved layout.

The compact modular concept that supports the Easy-e-Beam®

system now allows for a full assembly of every system within

the IBA factory, immediately following the manufacturing

process. Consequently, it can be thoroughly tested, all the way

to the maximum speci cations requested by the customer, even

before being shipped to the end user’s location. This reduces the

installation and commissioning time considerably as these steps

were previously scheduled on-site at the customer’s location. With

the new con guration, customers receive a well-prepared system,

reducing installation and commissioning time by more than 50

per cent. Assembly and wiring has been reduced to about four

weeks.

For the commissioning and validation protocol, another four

weeks are typically required, bringing the IBA team’s eld

presence to two months in general. Customers anticipating

an Easy-e-Beam® arrival no longer have to deal with elaborate

preparations: the number of interfaces has been reduced to just

a handful in order to simplify operation of the system. V3 also

o ers improved integration modalities with the di erent utilities

required to operate the Easy-e-Beam®. These enhancements were

developed to enable a faster and more e cient implementation at

the customer site.

The goal of the remodel was to make the system more

user-friendly. The Dynamitron® accelerator at the heart of the

Easy-e-Beam® system, widely recognised as a very reliable system,

remains unchanged. However, the Easy-e-Beam® system layout

was redesigned to accommodate multiple improvements. In line

with the overall IBA spirit of collaboration, the company chose

to complement its in-house accelerator expertise with external

know-how concerning the mechanical handling equipment

required to convey wires and cables under the beam.

IBA partnered with leading wire and cable equipment suppliers

to ensure top-notch product handling systems surrounding the

Dynamitron®, resulting in excellent uptime. The redesign not only

covers easy integration of such external suppliers’ machinery, but

also relocates the handling process equipment outside of the

crosslinking chamber. Previously it was exposed to a mixture of

radiation, ozone and often moisture created by the crosslinking

process. The new layout features walls that segregate the handling

process equipment from this harsh, corrosive environment, for

improved equipment durability.
